ChairDrive
A personal mobility assistant for the office
Client: Nextidevolution, Japan
Year: 2012
Delft University of Technology
This device has been designed for “flex” office spaces, which are large and employees can move from space to space many times during the day. With the Chair Drive anyone can move around the building in his own office chair. It can therefore eliminate the stigma to disabled people who otherwise have to use a wheelchair.
It is a small vehicle in the shape of a footrest that the user can control with a smartphone. Using sensors, it finds its way to the chair and attaches to its docking station, which is already placed on the chair. In that way, it can turn almost any office chair into a personal mobility device!
